Beloved Actor Gaild Salten Passes Away at 78

Gaild Salten, the cherished actor known for his memorable role in “Hee Haw,” has died at the age of 78, as confirmed by his studio and event organization. He had been grappling with health issues in recent times.

Teresa Knox, CEO of the Church Studio in Tulsa, Oklahoma, shared the news with the public. Salten also starred in notable films like “Mississippi Burning” and “Fried Green Tomatoes.” As of now, the exact cause of his death remains undisclosed.

The church studio honored Salten, referring to him as “an extraordinary actor, artist, and comedian.” His wife, Mary Joe, was actively involved with the organization as a volunteer.

Victoria Holeman, who played Miss Honeydew in “Hee Haw,” remembered Salten fondly, saying she considered him like an older brother. She reflected on how he would often make the cast laugh so much that they had to urge him to stop joking around.

“I had known for a while that he wasn’t in great health. We just kept hoping he’d pull through. I definitely didn’t expect to hear the news early in the morning,” she told an outlet.

Salten’s acting journey began in the early ’70s with a role in a local nighttime sketch series called Uncanny Film Festival and Camp Meeting. He gained recognition after joining “Hee Haw” in 1972, which opened the door to many more acting opportunities. Throughout his career, he accrued over 60 credits in film and television.

Some of his prominent works include multiple “Ernest” films, “The Outsiders,” and “The Buddy Holly Story.” He also had a role in “The Jerk” alongside Steve Martin and appeared in films like “The Grifters,” “Ali,” and “Elizabethtown.” Fans and colleagues are expressing their condolences on social media, celebrating the lasting impact of Salten’s contributions to the entertainment world.
