Colorado Summit Transitions to NWSL

The Colorado Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA) has made quite a remarkable gesture. Denver has officially been awarded an expansion team in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). During the naming process, which involved over 50,000 fans, the team settled on “Colorado Summit,” indicating a smooth transition from one sport to another.

The new club, dubbed Denver Summit FC, will launch its inaugural season in 2026. It’s certainly an interesting time for soccer fans in Colorado, especially with the new identity emerging from the existing Frisbee culture.

As for the team’s crest, it depicts a dark green mountain set against a striking reddish-orange sunset, a nod—perhaps—to the vibrant sunsets the region is famous for. This design choice was intended, apparently, to reflect Colorado’s natural beauty.

Sarupace, the co-owner of the Colorado Summit, mentioned the collaborative effort involved in this transition, exuding excitement about this new chapter in their sports journey. “It’s not just a handoff. It really is a collaboration that shows respect and teamwork within the Colorado sports community,” Pace noted. “Seeing the Summit name thrive in professional women’s soccer is a huge honor, and we’re thrilled to usher in this new era of Colorado Ultimate Frisbee.”

In a statement, the Colorado Summit described the partnership as “a rare moment of sportsmanship.” It’s refreshing, I think, to see different sports support one another, especially in such a competitive environment. They emphasized the enthusiastic backing the Frisbee team is offering to the emerging women’s soccer scene in Denver.

Meanwhile, the Frisbee team is now on the lookout for a new name. They’ve initiated a contest to gather suggestions from fans, which is a pretty neat way to engage the community. Over the next few weeks, fans can submit ideas and vote. The finalists will be selected soon, and the winning name will be revealed ahead of next season.

As for now, the Colorado playoffs are ongoing, with the team set to face the Oakland Spiders Pro in their next match. It will be interesting to see how this all unfolds and what name the Frisbee team ultimately adopts.
