Congress Hearing Highlights NGO Role in Immigration Issues
A recent hearing held by Congress brought to light the involvement of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the ongoing immigration challenges faced by the Biden administration. The session underscored how these organizations have seemingly benefited financially from American taxpayers while contributing to a situation that could lead to human trafficking and exploitation.
The Homeland Security Hearing Committee is conducting what they term a “long-standing investigation” that evaluates whether NGOs utilized taxpayer funds to engage in illegal practices during the Biden-Harris administration.
“The treatment allowed for these children represents one of the largest humanitarian crises of our time,” one witness remarked, emphasizing the severity of the situation.
The testimonies included insights from various figures, such as Julio Rosas, a correspondent for Blaze Media, and Ali Hopper, who focuses on human trafficking, providing evidence that backs the claims against NGO-funded assistance programs.
Tensions were palpable as Rep. Benny Thompson (D-Miss.) interrupted Howell’s testimony, pushing for a recorded vote to declare it irrelevant to the hearing. The Republican majority ultimately allowed Howell to continue, though the session experienced numerous interruptions as Democratic members prompted unscheduled votes and accused the chairman of violating procedural rules, effectively stalling proceedings.
According to Rosas’ testimony, “Ultimately, these NGOs aimed to assist individuals in reaching their desired destinations in the U.S., despite their undocumented status.” He further remarked, “Upon arriving in the U.S., these individuals had substantial motivations to take dangerous risks while traversing cartel-controlled regions.” He noted a specific shelter in El Paso, where about 80% of women reported being raped multiple times in front of children during 2023, raising serious concerns about the effectiveness of the very aid these organizations claimed to provide.
During the hearing, several Democrats, including Rep. Lou Correa (D-Calif.), faced off against Rosas. Correa expressed disappointment regarding the actions of some Catholic organizations that use taxpayer funding to support illegal immigration, advising caution to Rosas regarding his testimony.
Howell pointed out that the same NGOs that contributed to the previous administration’s border difficulties are now obstructing deportation efforts under President Trump. “The Biden administration has allocated billions through nonprofits specifically to encourage aggression against the U.S. Now, many of those same actors are leading the charge against the legal repercussions of illegal immigration,” Howell asserted, making headlines even before the hearing commenced.
“It’s crucial that repercussions be enforced, especially as Democrats continue to support violence and illegal actions against lawful enforcement,” Howell insisted. “Congress has a responsibility to oversee expenditure of these funds and ensure these organizations face intensified scrutiny for their pivotal roles in this historical crisis.”
Hopper responded in kind, aiming to shed light on “the heartbreaking realities and exploitation faced by unaccompanied foreign children under the harsh policies of the Biden administration.” Through firsthand interviews with children, traffickers, cartel members, and whistleblowers, Hopper intends to highlight the role of NGOs as intermediaries in a humanitarian pipeline that has ultimately led to exploitation.
“What these children have had to endure is one of the greatest humanitarian crises in our lifetime,” Hopper concluded.
