It was a tense night for Red Sox fans at Fenway Park on Friday.
During the seventh inning, as the Yankees surged to a 4-0 lead, David Hamilton was at bat after making a two-base move. The broadcast on Apple TV+ revealed a frustrated Boston fan perched on the Green Monster.
“This guy shouldn’t even be in the league!” the fan vented, his annoyance clear. “What happened to our team?”
Wayne Randazzo, a broadcaster for Apple TV+, chuckled at the moment caught on the hot mic, playfully asking, “Are you talking about me?”
The 27-year-old Hamilton has seen ups and downs this season, shifting between the Red Sox and Triple A Worcester, and his performance hasn’t quite shined through. In 85 major league games, he’s not been very productive.
This season, Hamilton boasts a struggling .200 batting average and a .568 OPS, with four home runs and 16 RBIs for the Red Sox. On Friday night, he went 0-for-3, featuring a walk and a strikeout.
This marks Hamilton’s third major league season, all spent with Boston. Given the team’s poor performance—just two hits in the entire game—fans were ready to point fingers.
The Yankees ultimately won 4-1, continuing the final series of regular-season matchups against their divisional rivals.
Despite losing eight straight to the Red Sox earlier in the year, including a sweep back in June, Friday’s victory puts the Yankees one game ahead in the AL Wild Card standings, with a record of 82-65 over the Red Sox’s 81-67.
