FTR to Take Extended Break from AEW
Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler, known as FTR in the wrestling world, announced on Saturday that they will be stepping away from All Elite Wrestling (AEW) for an extended period.
The duo lost their AEW World Tag Team Championship to Adam Copeland and Christian Cage in an I Quit match last month at Double or Nothing. Since that event, they have not appeared on any AEW broadcast.
In a detailed Instagram post, Harwood hinted at their need for time off to recuperate both physically and mentally. He reflected on their journey since 2014, stating, “We’ve been pushing hard since 2014. Other than a bicep injury in 2017, it’s been non-stop. Honestly, we’re both drained.”
He went on to detail his health struggles, including three lower back hematomas and other significant injuries, saying, “For the first time in 12 years, we’ve decided to step away for a bit. We don’t even know when we’ll be back or what this means for us moving forward.”
Wheeler, meanwhile, expressed interest in competing in New Japan Pro Wrestling’s World Tag League. He mentioned that their schedules didn’t align for other opportunities but emphasized their desire to try for the league before winding down their careers. “Honestly, I might not last long in the match. But giving it a shot at least once is something we really want to do,” he said.
Before their hiatus kicks in, FTR plans to face Ken Anderson and Doc Gallows in Kentucky at the end of August. Harwood, looking forward to some family time in Hawaii, shared that they’ll enjoy some vacation before diving back into wrestling.
Overall, FTR has certainly made their mark in professional wrestling, with three AEW Tag Team Titles in just over seven years serving as a testament to their greatness.
