Fugitive on FBI's 'Most Wanted Terrorist' list captured in UK after 20 years

Fugitive Daniel Andreas Sandiego, who is on the FBI's “Most Wanted Terrorists” list, was arrested in Britain on Monday after more than 20 years.

A 46-year-old San Diego man wanted in connection with two bombings in Northern California in the 2000s has been arrested in Wales. This was announced by the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA).. The Californian was detained by NCA officers in an operation involving North Wales Police and counter-terrorism police.

San Diego now faces extradition to the United States to face charges, the NCA said.

FBI Director Christopher Wray praised the San Diego arrests Tuesday.

“The arrest of Daniel San Diego, the first fugitive in more than 20 years for two San Francisco-area bombings, shows that the FBI will find you and hold you accountable, no matter how long it takes. ” Ray said in a statement:. “There is a right way and a wrong way to express your opinion in our country, and resorting to violence and destruction of property is not the right way.”

Mr. San Diego was on the FBI's “Most Wanted Terrorists'' list in 2009 and was being sought by authorities for his involvement in two bombings in the San Francisco area, the FBI said.

In August 2003, two bombs exploded just about an hour apart on the campus of biotechnology company Chiron Corp. in Emeryville. No one was injured in these explosions.

The FBI said the fugitive was also suspected of being involved in a “nail bomb” that exploded at Shaklee, a nutritional products company in Pleasanton, California. There were no injuries in the incident.

San Diego was indicted in July 2004 in U.S. District Court.

The FBI said he had ties to animal rights extremist groups and had previously worked as a computer network expert.
