A pregnant Georgia mother who police say killed her 1-year-old son was arrested and taken into custody in upstate New York over the weekend after two weeks on the run.

On Saturday, Gloria Wright, 23, a member of the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office in Georgia, was tracked to Rochester and arrested by U.S. Marshals. said in a statement.

Wright faces charges of first-degree murder and first-degree child abuse after authorities found her 1-year-old son not breathing in her Georgia home on January 8, the sheriff's office said. He was wanted.

Paramedics were called to the home and attempted to resuscitate the child, but unfortunately he died in hospital.

Authorities interviewed Wright on the day of her son's death, but they were never able to find her. It was not until later that the child's death was determined to be a homicide. WSBTV reported.

“We have a young child who lost her life in the hands of her mother, who is currently pregnant with another child and we would like to detain her for her safety and security. “For the safety of that child,'' Rockdale County Sheriff's Investigator Grote Levett told the department before Wright's arrest.

Authorities have not released details about the nearly two-week search for Wright, but they have offered a $5,000 reward for information on his whereabouts.

It was not immediately clear if she would be extradited to Rockdale County.
