Father Searches for Missing Son Years After Disappearance
A retired US military veteran continues to seek answers regarding the disappearance of his son, Daniel Robinson, a geologist who went missing from work sites in Arizona. This incident dates back to June 23, 2021, when 24-year-old Daniel left his job around 9 am but didn’t return. His father, David Robinson, reported him missing the following day after being notified by a colleague.
“When I first called,” David said, reflecting on reaching out to authorities.
Concerns of Foul Play
According to David, local law enforcement initially declined his request to start searching for Daniel, claiming his age was a factor. Frustrated, he drove from his home in South Carolina to Arizona, approximately 2,000 miles away, to search for his son himself. “I lost it,” he shared. “I just grabbed everything I could, threw it into my car and started driving.”
Upon arriving, he was unhappy with the urgency of the local authorities and opted to hire a private investigator for assistance. A less than a month later, Daniel’s Jeep was found overturned in a valley by a rancher. The vehicle had damage, including broken windows, and was missing parts of its roof.
Investigative Developments and Doubts
Despite the vehicle’s condition, authorities ruled out foul play regarding Daniel’s disappearance. This conclusion, however, left David unconvinced. “What they described didn’t seem to match the scene,” he voiced his dissatisfaction. A private investigator would later find inconsistencies in the vehicle’s damage compared to the surrounding landscape, leading to the conclusion that foul play may have occurred.
From the available data, it was revealed that Daniel’s vehicle had traveled 11 miles after the airbag deployed, suggesting it might have been moved to the site where it was found.
The Search Continues
As David continues his search, he has faced further frustrations with law enforcement’s theories about his son’s whereabouts. One particularly unhelpful suggestion from the police claimed Daniel had joined a monastery, which led David to conduct a wild goose chase to verify the claim. “It was a waste of money and energy,” he reflected.
Currently, the case remains open with the Buckeye Police Department as they sift through evidence related to Daniel’s disappearance. The department insists they are dedicated to finding him and urges anyone with information to reach out.
A Hope for New Leads
Four years on, David is optimistic that changes within the Buckeye Police Department will bring fresh insights into Daniel’s case. “New leads would be great,” he expressed, hoping advancements in forensic evidence could illuminate what happened to his son. In the meantime, he actively searches the desert for clues.
David has joined forces with others who have experienced similar losses, collaborating with families of other missing persons. His commitment remains unwavering, having recovered several sets of human remains to help provide closure to other families even as he relentlessly pursues Daniel’s case.
In April, he connected with Joseph Petit, whose daughter, Gabby, also went missing around the same time as Daniel. Their bond over their shared grief has turned into a supportive partnership in the quest for answers.
“He called me in January and said he wanted to help,” David recalled warmly. Joseph’s involvement reinforced that bond, and he expressed his hope for progress in David’s search.
David continues to advocate for missing persons at a national level, even running for a congressional seat in South Carolina. “My mission is fueled by my love for my son and my military background,” he shared. “I have to treat finding him like a mission.”
