Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) said Thursday on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Calif.) has been criticized as Republicans ousted former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.). (Louisiana)’s ability to negotiate legislation has weakened.
Moderator Anderson Cooper asked, “Do you think this foreign aid bill will be passed within the next few days?” If so, do you think Chairman Johnson would serve longer?”
Lawler replied, “Yes, the foreign aid bill will pass. It must pass.” As the leader of the free world, the United States has the power to support its allies at this most critical moment and support the free world. We have an obligation to make it clear to our adversaries that we will not tolerate what our allies have done to undermine and destabilize us.”
He added, “This is not a question of partisan politics, it’s a question of the future of the world and America’s role in it. I think we have to focus on the job at hand. I understand the frustration of my colleagues in the department, and I agree with the need for border security.”
Lawler added, “Many of the people who are complaining now had voted against Chairman McCarthy’s continuing resolution before he was removed, so these questions may explain why Chairman Johnson’s negotiating power has diminished.” “Some people should remember that they have no one to blame but themselves,” he added. It was their actions that brought it about. I think of this very simply.
