Gallego Warns Military Officials Over Investigation of Sen. Kelly

Senator Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) expressed concern on Monday, indicating that military officials could face “consequences” if they decide to court-martial Senator Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.). His comments came shortly after the Army announced an investigation into allegations of misconduct against Kelly related to a controversial video urging military personnel to resist illegal orders from former President Donald Trump.

In an interview with CNN’s Casey Hunt, Gallego stated he believes that the military and judicial system will handle the situation correctly but emphasized that officers should understand the potential repercussions of attempting to “blame” Kelly.

Democratic Senator Uncertain About Trump’s Orders

“Donald Trump will be gone within a few years,” Gallego remarked. He went on to highlight that military personnel engaged in actions targeting a sitting senator might face significant fallout, especially as Trump’s protection fades. He suggested that officers would potentially have to align their actions more closely with the U.S. Constitution to avoid issues.

“There will likely be many police officers involved in such proceedings, if it can be called that, looking over their shoulders,” he added, hinting at the fears military members might have about future accountability.

Defending the Controversial Video

Gallego defended the video featuring Kelly alongside five other Democrats, noting that he had received feedback from military members who expressed worries about the president’s conduct. He pointed to unusual military actions, such as Marines stationed in Los Angeles and National Guard troops deployed to states without requests from local governors, as instances of politicization. “We’ve never witnessed anything like this before,” he said.

Trump’s Actions Under Scrutiny

He also referred to Trump’s recent actions against Venezuela, although he stopped short of labeling them “illegal.” Gallego reiterated that military members are not obligated to follow “illegal orders.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to Gallego’s office and the Department of the Army for further comments.
