The percentage of U.S. adults who identify as LGBTQ+ continues to grow, reaching a new high of 7.6% in the latest Gallup poll.
If current trends continue, the LGBTQ+ population in the United States could reach 10% within 30 years. Gallup said: 2023 public opinion poll results.
Gallup says the percentage of U.S. adults who consider themselves part of the LGBTQ+ community has more than doubled since the organization first asked about sexual orientation and transgender identity in 2012.
The current figure is up from 5.6% in 2020 and 3.5% in 2012, the first year Gallup measured sexual orientation and transgender identity.

According to Gallup, each young generation is nearly twice as likely as the previous generation to identify as LGBTQ+.

Gallup has announced that by 2023, more than one in five Gen Z adults between the ages of 18 and 26 will identify as LGBTQ+. According to the pollster, one in 10 millennials between the ages of 27 and 42 identify as LGBTQ+.
This percentage drops to less than 5% for Generation X, 2% for Baby Boomers, and less than 1% for the Silent Generation.

Bisexual adults make up the largest proportion of the LGBTQ+ population, with 4.4% of U.S. adults and 57.3% of LGBTQ+ adults identifying as bisexual. Gay and lesbian are the next most common identities, each accounting for just over 1% of U.S. adults and approximately 1 in 6 LGBTQ+ adults. Less than 1% of adults in the United States, and about 1 in 8 LGBTQ+ adults, are transgender. The most commonly volunteered LGBTQ+ identities are pansexual and asexual, each mentioned by less than 2% of LGBTQ+ adults. (Gallup)
