Trade Rumors Surrounding New York Jets’ Garrett Wilson

The Indianapolis Colts have already designated themselves as sellers ahead of the NFL trade deadline on November 10. Now, fans are curious about which team may be the next to follow suit.

The New York Jets, currently sharing a disappointing 2-5 record with the Colts, have some valuable veterans that could potentially be traded. One key player on their roster is star receiver Garrett Wilson. Since joining the Jets, he has been a consistent bright spot, despite being part of a franchise that is experiencing the longest playoff drought in professional sports — a staggering 15 seasons.

During a recent media session before the Jets’ Week 8 game against the Las Vegas Raiders, Wilson was again asked about the trade rumors circulating around him. While he expressed a clear wish to stay with the team, his frustration with the ongoing losing situation was evident. The Jets selected him 10th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, and he still hasn’t managed to escape the losing culture that seems to envelop the team.

“Yeah, I want to be here, man,” he told reporters. “I want to win games, and that’s the one thing we’ve been missing on here. I love it here. Do I love it more than I love winning? Nah, to be completely honest, but I’m hopeful.”

“I’ve never been the best optimistic guy, but I’ve found a way and dug deep, and I’ve been optimistic for three, four, five years now. And that’s why these losses each weekend hurt a little more,” he added.

His comments came after he was visibly frustrated during the Jets’ 28-25 loss to the Miami Dolphins, who managed to secure their first victory of the season. Wilson had only seen three targets from quarterback Geno Smith in that game, catching two for 26 yards, which was a sharp decline from his previous week’s performance of four catches for 44 yards against the New England Patriots.

Interestingly, Wilson recently signed a four-year, $130 million contract that binds him to the Jets through 2030, which would make any potential trade costly for interested teams. Nevertheless, the Jets have previously traded first-round talents in the past year, demonstrating that no player is completely safe on a struggling roster. Last season, they dealt defensive tackle Quinnen Williams to the Dallas Cowboys and cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Colts shortly after he signed a significant extension.

Although Wilson is eager to remain, his mounting frustration is palpable as the losses stack up. During his time with the team, he’s witnessed a troubling record of 24 wins and 51 losses, with their best season yielding a mere 7-10 record.

“I’d be lying if I said it’s not [frustrating],” Wilson remarked about the ongoing losses and lack of targets, “but at the end of the day it comes down to… winning and losing. Throughout my experience, when things go right, I tend to have a part in that. And when it doesn’t, it seems avoidable.” He continued, “That’s my main frustration that may show on the TV or something like that. But I don’t want it to ever be misconstrued. This all comes from a place in my heart of wanting to win. I’m biased, but it also comes from experience where I played my part in that.”
