Garrett Wilson wants Aaron Rodgers chemistry to shine ‘when it matters’

The duo of Aaron Rodgers and Garrett Wilson has been quiet so far this season.

Wilson, who had over 1,000 yards in the two seasons without Rodgers, has 15 receptions on 26 targets for 150 yards and one touchdown in three games.

He leads the team in yards and receptions, but the chemistry between the two has yet to shine.

“Yeah, I feel like that,” Wilson said Friday about whether he and Rodgers were more in sync this week ahead of Sunday's game against the Broncos at MetLife Stadium. “So now we have to do it on Sunday. That's when it matters. If you had asked me before the game last week, I would have thought we were on the same page. We had to do it on Sunday. That's when it mattered.”

Wilson's less-than-stellar start comes as he has faced some of the league's top corners in recent weeks, including the Titans' Rajarius Sneed, the Patriots' Christian Gonzalez and, on Sunday, Denver's Patrick Surtain.

Wilson was often double-teamed with the top cornerbacks along with the safeties.

“Well, it can be frustrating every time they make that look,” Wilson said. “But we know how to answer on the other side and I've come to trust that that's what we've been finding. Yeah, it's frustrating for sure. I take pride in making things and doing my job. But if they want to give me that look, we'll deal with it the best way we can. So we had to take advantage of that because the numbers were low on the other side of the field.”

Wilson's presence on the field gives Breece Hall and rookie Braylon Allen opportunities in the run game, as well as new looks for Allen Lazard, Mike Williams and Tyler Conklin.

With 148 yards and three touchdowns, Lazard appeared to be completely reinvented as a No. 2 wideout option as the weeks went on.

Conklin and Williams added 93 and 34 yards, respectively, against the Patriots, making Hall and Allen a versatile rushing duo.

Wilson said he still “loves” the sport and knows the Jets plan to target him if given a one-on-one chance.

“It's just a process. We have to try to put him in a situation where he can be No. 1 in his development, which he has a lot of, and then we have to mix up the looks. So we… You know, we had to do a lot of things to give him a chance to get going and we want to get him the ball early, but it's just a process,'' Rodgers said Wednesday. talked about. “He has to be patient, we have to be patient, but we can't force it.”

CJ Moseley did not practice Friday and remains questionable for Sunday's game against the Broncos.
