A police officer, Garry Chapman, who is also the son of renowned dog bounty hunters Alice and Duane Chapman, was let go from the Priceville Police Department in Alabama following his involvement in a pursuit that tragically led to the death of a 17-year-old boy.
This event took place on September 6th, as reported by local outlets. Initially, Chapman, age 24, was placed on administrative leave as part of an internal investigation. Chief Jerry Holmes of Priceville, along with Mayor Sam Heflin, made the decision to terminate his employment.
Chapman, who has appeared on various “Dog The Bounty Hunter” shows alongside his parents, has since filed an appeal. He argues that he acted in accordance with both departmental policies and state laws during the pursuit.
A hearing is set for October 14th with the city council to review the situation. Comments from his defense suggest that Chapman is a competent officer who has served his community well, highlighting a belief that he did not engage in any misconduct.
The police were attempting to stop a vehicle allegedly driven by 19-year-old Archie Hale due to a suspected DUI when the chase began. Unfortunately, it ended in tragedy on Interstate 65, leading to a crash that claimed the life of Tristan Hollis, one of the passengers.
Witnesses noted that Hale had taken four teenage boys in his van, which crashed, launching across an intersection before coming to a stop. Live coverage revealed that Hollis was transported to a hospital but was later declared dead.
Hale, who was seriously injured in the incident, faces multiple charges, including murder, DUI, and various drug-related offenses. Furthermore, all of the other teenage passengers were hospitalized due to injuries sustained in the crash.
