Health Expert Discusses America’s Healthcare Crisis
Gary Brekka, a biologist and longevity expert, recently shared his insights in an exclusive interview. He’s not only a biohacker but also the host of the “Ultimate Human” podcast and a proponent of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s health initiative, which aligns with broader efforts to improve public health policies in America.
Brekka emphasized the disconnect between America’s enormous healthcare spending—nearly $5 trillion annually—and the declining health metrics of the population. Despite being the world’s largest healthcare spender, the U.S. leads in various health issues like obesity and chronic diseases.
“We’ve become the most unwell country, grappling with significant health challenges. Our mission is to influence public policy to secure a healthier future for our children,” he stated.
Brekka, who spent two decades in death research for a major life insurance firm before transitioning to health improvement, shared his perspective on modern healthcare. He mentioned the establishment of a network of functional medicine clinics that aim to treat patients with tailored supplementation alongside lifestyle changes, connecting people with nature and each other.
Insights on Health Issues
While many view America as a global leader, Brekka pointed out critical failings in health outcomes. The country ranks poorly in metrics like infant and maternal mortality and prevalence of chronic diseases.
He cited research showing worsening autism rates, with recent CDC data indicating one in 31 children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Brekka believes this is part of a larger issue—what he calls “immune fatigue,” where the body struggles to fend off various chronic diseases due to environmental factors.
“Many Americans carry tumor cells at some point, but a robust immune system typically keeps those cells from becoming cancerous. Unfortunately, our food and daily products may contribute to deteriorating health,” he noted, mentioning harmful substances like heavy metals and various chemicals.
Brekka elaborated on the presence of these toxins in everyday life, from mycotoxins in certain foods to pesticides like glyphosate, highlighting the importance of choosing organic and thoroughly washing fruits and vegetables.
He also expressed concern over synthetic compounds without adequate biological processing capabilities in our bodies, which could be detrimental to our overall health.
Focus on Public Health Initiatives
Compelled by these findings, Brekka is involved in the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative led by Kennedy. The movement seeks to tackle nutrition, eradicate toxins, and improve overall well-being in the face of rising chronic diseases.
This past January, a significant step was taken when the FDA banned certain artificial dyes linked to health issues. Brekka believes this is just one part of a much larger effort aimed at reforming how food is processed and what is deemed safe to consume.
He concluded that with a major health crisis on the horizon, it’s crucial to address these systemic issues to not only improve health outcomes but to change the way public policy is shaped concerning nutrition and health practices in America.
