Gary Danielson retiring as CBS’s lead college football voice

The upcoming college football season will be Gary Danielson's last.

CBS's longtime Voice of College Football announced Wednesday that it will be retiring for the 2025 season, 36th on television and 20th at work.

Danielson will continue to work with Bradnessler and reporter Jenny Dell this season, and will be handed over to Charles Davis in 2026 by calling the CBS Weekly Markey Big 10 Matchup.

“I've had the best seat in the house for 36 years and I've loved it every minute,” Danielson said in a press release. “We have discussed CBS Sports' leadership and the timing of this moment over the past few years, but we felt it was important to stay with the team during the transition to the Big Ten. With Big Ten football's second full season and 20th in CBS Sports, we feel the timing is right.

David Berson, president and CEO of CBS Sports, also mentioned in his Danielson company and his running at College Football.

“Gary Danielson is one of the best college football analysts ever and is an even better teammate,” Burson said. “For 20 years here he has helped promote CBS Sports to the Gold Standard with college football coverage. We can't thank him enough. He has always been part of the CBS Sports family and hopes he's retired and is the best.”

Davis added Danielson. “Gary has been an outstanding voice of college football for decades and someone I have long admired and admired. It's hard to imagine a college football Saturday without him, but I'm excited to get one season with him last season.”

He threw 13,764 yards, 81 touchdowns and 78 interceptions, starting one Lions playoff game in 1983.
