Gary Sinise manages family responsibilities while considering a return to acting.

Gary Sinise Open to Returning to Hollywood Under Right Conditions

Gary Sinise has expressed that he might return to the entertainment industry if the circumstances align. In a recent conversation ahead of the PBS National Memorial Day Concert, he noted that while he hasn’t been active in recent years, he would consider jumping back into acting if a suitable project came along.

“I’ve been away from the movie scene for a while, and it’s all about timing. The right situation and people involved matter,” Sinise mentioned, reflecting on his past role in “CSI: NY,” where he spent nearly a decade. He emphasized that after having significant success, he doesn’t feel the urgency to rush back into the industry.

Sinise took a break from Hollywood in 2019 to care for his son, McCanna, who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. Sadly, McCanna passed away in 2024. Looking back, Sinise is grateful for his career, which provided him the financial stability to devote time to his family during tough times.

“If the right project comes, I’ll consider it,” he stated. “However, I’m not actively seeking roles nowadays. I occasionally do paid speaking engagements that allow me to remain at home.” He sees this as essential, especially with his family now including five grandchildren.

Recently, he has been in discussions about projects that fit better with his current lifestyle. “I want to stay closer to home. I’ve done extensive work in the past that often took me away for long stretches,” he shared, hinting that while he cherishes his career, his priorities have shifted.

Sinise also noted his commitment to the Gary Sinise Foundation, which he founded in 2011. The organization is dedicated to supporting veterans and first responders, providing various services from building smart homes to mental health initiatives.

As he gears up for his 19th year co-hosting the PBS Memorial Day Concert, Sinise looks back at how his involvement began. It was initially through NFL Legend Joe Montana, who introduced him to the event. Sinise describes the concert as a solemn tribute to those who have served and sacrificed for the country.

The annual concert is indeed a substantial event, bringing families together to honor military heroes. The National Memorial Day Concert will air on PBS, allowing viewers to witness the heartfelt tributes and celebrations of those who have given their all.
