California Governor Gavin Newsom addressed recent reports about an explosion in Palm Springs that resulted in at least one death and damage to a fertility clinic. He mentioned that both he and his wife are feeling the impact of this event.
“I was informed about the explosion near the Fertility Clinic in Palm Springs,” Newsom stated in a post. “Jen and I are definitely affected by this. The nation is closely collaborating with local and federal authorities as the investigation develops. It’s best to stay away from the area.”
This statement from Newsom followed reports of a car explosion in Palm Springs that caused damage to several buildings, including reproductive health facilities, according to Associated Press.
Two law enforcement officers, speaking anonymously, indicated that the situation is being looked into as a potential car explosion.
The investigation is centered on the possibility of a motor vehicle explosion, and officials shared this preliminary information as part of an ongoing inquiry. An official mentioned that at least one person is believed to have died, although authorities haven’t revealed any motives.
Dr. Maha Abdallah, who operates the fertility clinic, confirmed that while the building sustained damage, “the IVF lab and all the embryos stored there” remain safe.
“Honestly, I’m not sure what happened,” Abdallah expressed. “Fortunately, it was a day when there were no patients present.”
Attorney General Pam Bondi mentioned in her response to the situation that “federal agents” are on-site acting alongside local law enforcement.
She emphasized that “violence against fertility clinics is unacceptable.” In her post, Bondi noted, “I was briefed about the explosion at the fertility clinic in Palm Springs. Federal agents are currently coordinating with local authorities. We’re working to gather more information, but let me be clear: women and mothers are vital to America.”
