Gavin Newsom Critiques Southern States on Social Media
California Governor Gavin Newsom didn’t hold back in a recent social media post targeting several southern states. He remarked, “Confederate states are rushing to investigate fraudulent maps to erase black neighborhoods from their maps.” Alongside this statement, he shared a map that illustrated the potential impacts of redistricting in states like Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina.
It’s somewhat puzzling that the term “black neighborhood” is even a concept that needs to be discussed, though Newsom doesn’t touch on this aspect. He further stressed, “If you’re not angry about this, you should be.”
There’s a side note that crosses my mind: why is sheer analysis overlooked? I sometimes find the constant push for intense emotions like anger or fear to be, well, a bit much.
Amid speculation about a potential presidential run in 2028, Newsom seems to be veering away from the conventional political route of seeking voter approval. It’s true; his social media posts are likely crafted by his staff, but the optics still don’t look great. His references to the Confederacy feel more like a remnant of a tumultuous past, especially given his advocacy for government policies that favor certain racial groups.
In a CBS interview on “Sunday Morning,” he hinted at considering a presidential bid, acknowledging, “Who knows? I’m looking forward to seeing who shows up in 2028.” He added that it would be disingenuous to claim he isn’t contemplating a run.
Ultimately, it’s frustrating to see dishonesty in politics.
