Gavin Newsom threatens legislative action over Kamala Harris ad posted by Elon Musk, who responds with hilarious mockery

California’s Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, expressed outrage after Elon Musk posted a video ad containing manipulated comments about Vice President Kamala Harris, to which he responded with ridicule.

The video features Harris in a segment where a voice sounding similar to her makes a series of talking points mocking her political past.

“This is the final blow.”

“I, Kamala Harris, am your Democratic candidate for President because Joe Biden finally showed his age in the debate,” the video states. “I was selected because I am the ultimate diversity hire. I am a woman and a person of color, so anyone who criticizes what I say is a sexist and a racist!”

Governor Newsom responded by saying that voice-activated ads should be illegal.

“It should be illegal to manipulate voices with these ‘ads’ and I will sign legislation in the coming weeks to make sure it is illegal,” he wrote on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Musk responded by mocking Newsom: The Popular insult.

“I checked with Professor Sagon Deesnutz, a world-renowned authority, and he said parody is legal in the US,” he replied from his official X account.

The video was shared widely by Musk and Newsom and has been viewed nearly 19 million times.

Others criticized Musk, the owner of X, for posting a video with manipulated audio that appeared to violate the platform’s terms of use.

“If @elonmuskAnd if X were to leave this alone and not classify it as altered AI content, it would not only be violating its own rules, but it would be unleashing fake AI audio and image altered content for an entire election season, without restriction, regardless of party affiliation.” Responded Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Democrat of Minnesota.

Musk previously criticized California Democrats for passing a law that would prohibit schools from informing parents of their children’s change of gender or sexual orientation choices, and said he would move his company, X and Starlink, from California to Texas over the controversial legislation.

“This law, and many before it, have attacked both families and businesses,” Musk said. “This is the final blow.”
