Gavin Newsom Opens Up About Past Excesses

Governor Gavin Newsom has shared details about his reckless behavior during his early political career in San Francisco, where he indulged in fine wines and dated numerous socialites and actresses.

He admitted that he didn’t handle being single “sensibly” after his divorce from Kimberly Guilfoyle in 2005, while he served as mayor.

“After a long workday, a single guy would show up at a restaurant bar, order some wine, chat with old friends, meet new ones, have another glass, take food home, and wake up the next day thinking the previous night was just private,” he reflected.

His memoir touches on past escapades yet notably leaves out a brief romance with Brittany Mounts, who was only 19 at the time.

Newsom also recounted a relationship with the “dark and seductive” actress Sofia Milos, despite warnings from aides about her being a Scientologist attempting to recruit him.

This romance concluded when Gordon Getty, the billionaire who supported Newsom’s wine business and political ambitions, expressed concern through a handwritten note. He was apprehensive about the relationship, stating, “I’m very worried about what’s going on between you and this woman. I don’t think she’s right for you.”

After splitting with Milos, Newsom’s choices continued to lead him down a troubled path.

He later heard from aides about incidents at his apartment, which included one involving former secretary Ruby Rippy Tourak. “Ruby drank too much, and so did I,” he recalled. She was part of a small group that came over for a party, and their brief affair became public later.

Newsom mentioned attending counseling at Delancey Street, a foundation addressing drug issues, where a counselor suggested he did not have a drinking problem and could resume drinking wine.

Additionally, he reflected on a nearly five-year relationship with Kelly Pfleger, now married to actor Don Johnson.

The governor expressed doubts during his engagement to Guilfoyle, recalling a moment of contemplation while seated in a PlumpJack delivery truck, questioning the depth of their love for one another.

Before going on a trip to Hawaii with Getty’s current wife, Vanessa Getty, he received a cautionary warning from Billy Getty, Gordon Getty’s son, to “be careful.”

In 2006, Newsom went on a blind date with his eventual wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom. Interestingly, he faced criticism for labeling Lippie Tourak as the “culprit” in their affair, leading to an apology from her later.
