Gemini Launches New Credit Card with Cryptocurrency Rewards
Gemini has introduced a credit card that aims to help users save money while earning rewards on selected purchases. This new card, which features Solana, allows users to stake their rewards directly, making it quite unique.
According to a blog post from Gemini, the card offers various benefits. Users can earn up to 4% back on purchases related to gas, electric vehicle charging, and ridesharing. Additionally, there’s a 3% return on dining expenses and 2% on groceries. For all other transactions, customers will earn 1% back.
The post also mentioned that customers can receive as much as 10% back at certain participating retailers, which is quite enticing. Moreover, rewards from the Solana credit card can be automatically staked, allowing users to earn more by locking up their cryptocurrencies and participating in securing the Solana network.
Gemini remarked in their announcement that, given Solana’s growth and active developer community, launching a Solana version of their credit card felt like a natural step. They highlighted that Solana’s reward structure is one of the best among cryptocurrencies available on their platform.
Back in January 2021, Gemini initially expressed intentions to introduce a cryptocurrency rewards card after acquiring Blockrise, which was working on a similar product. Tyler Winklevoss, the CEO of Gemini, noted that the card provides an effortless way for consumers to invest in cryptocurrencies.
Instead of customers deciding when to buy cryptocurrencies, he explained, they can do so seamlessly through their everyday purchases. In collaboration with Ripple, Gemini also launched an XRP version of the credit card in August 2021, providing crypto rewards in XRP, leveraging the XRP Ledger.
Winklevoss mentioned that the XRP edition of the card was designed to offer customers a new way to earn XRP and express their enthusiasm. Ripple’s CEO, Brad Garlinghouse, emphasized that this initiative aims to simplify the experience of using cryptocurrencies for everyone.
