The 75-year-old told the night's first performers, Danny Amendola and partner Witney Carson, that he didn't know which of them was more “hot hot hot.”
Simmons started the judging on a high note, awarding nine points to the 38-year-old athlete and 30-year-old professional dancer, who were given seven points by the other judges.
Later in the show, he tried to give Brooks Nader and Gleb Savchenko their first 10 points of the season, but their scores didn't count because they had already scored nine.

The supermodel echoed her partner's sentiments, saying, “We made history this season, the first 10 seasons, and we're still counting.”
As the night progressed, Simmons shocked the cast with a low score. 'Bachelorette' star Jen Tran He received eight points from Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli, but the KISS vocalist and bassist gave it a seven after quipping, “Don't make me hate you.”
“He ruined everything, Gene, damn it,” Tran's partner Sasha Farber joked to the Post.
“There wasn't even a score, but the commentary was crazy,” the reality TV star said.
What made the song even more shocking was that during the dance, Simmons said to Tran, “You know what? “Aside from being beautiful, you get results.”
When it came to musicians singing, Phaedra Parks was also in a bind.
She received 5 points from Simmons, but her dance received 7 points from the remaining three judges.
The RHOA star, 50, and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy, 38, looked shocked as the crowd booed. They continued to shake their heads while Chandler Kinney covered his mouth in disbelief and blurted out, “What's going on?”
Co-host Julianne Hough also appeared stunned by Simone's score after telling the duo that she was a “huge fan of Bad Boy and Bad Girl” for their routine dynamic.
“It's a great night tonight,” the 36-year-old said with a shrug on the air. “Okay, I can't say it enough, but you have to vote to save your favorites from tonight's double elimination.”
Throughout the night, the rock star called Reginald VelJohnson's partner Emma Slater a “beautiful woman,” said Kinney “fogged up my glasses,” and said she was “not just like your spins and stuff.” You touched me with your beautiful face.”
After the show, Kinney and partner Brandon Armstrong took issue with Simmons' unconventional judging.
“It was like tailgating in a hurricane,” Armstrong explained to the Post. “It was like I couldn’t hear what he was saying, but it was good.”
“It was definitely interesting,” the “Pretty Little Liars” alum said. “If that's not good television because I couldn't predict what he was going to say next, I don't know what is.”
A viewer felt the same way, one user said. write to X, “@officialdwts never have @gensimmons Guest judge again. Sexist comment…giving Phaedra a 5?! Totally unnecessary. I want Whitney to apologize as well. ”
another person commented,”@officialdwts What's wrong with Gene Simmons' scores being thrown all over the place? Stick to guest judges who understand the dance process and scoring process. I'm really looking forward to it @MarkBallas I will guest judge next week. ”
another critic shared“We went from entitled guest judges like Rosie Perez to a chaotic mess like Gene Simmons. #DWTS,” meanwhile another said“I have to say the worst guest judge on DWTS last night was Gene Simmons. Inappropriate and disgusting…..”
