General Hospital Triumphs at the 2025 Daytime Emmy Awards
It’s clear that daytime television is still alive and well. The beloved ABC soap opera, General Hospital, was awarded Best Daytime Drama Series at the 52nd annual Daytime Emmy Awards held on October 17th. Competing against it were Days of Our Lives and The Young and the Restless.
With this victory, General Hospital concluded its 2025 campaign with seven Daytime Emmy Awards, making it the most awarded soap opera this year and reinforcing its impressive legacy.
The show boasts the highest number of wins in the Outstanding Daytime Drama category, having also taken the title in 2024. This year, it garnered 16 nominations, showcasing its enduring appeal more than six decades after its premiere.
Debuting on April 1, 1963, General Hospital holds the title of the longest-running American soap opera still on air, with over 15,600 episodes across 62 seasons. Even as daytime TV faces changes, this series remains a strong performer for ABC, drawing around 2 million viewers per episode in 2025. Quite the achievement for a show that’s been around for so long!
In terms of acting accolades this year, Laura Wright (Carly) and Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) received the Best Actress award, while Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) won Best Actor. Kate Mansi (Christina) took home Best Supporting Actress, with the Best Supporting Actor awards going to Taj Bellow (TJ), Gregory Harrison (Gregory), and Jonathan Jackson (Lucky). The guest actress category included winners like Jacqueline Lopez (Blaze), Alley Mills (Heather), and Avery Kristen Paul (Esme).
Beyond acting, General Hospital also excelled in categories like screenplay, direction, costume design, casting, and hair and makeup, solidifying its status as a powerhouse in daytime dramas.
For some perspective, The Young and the Restless, which has won the Emmy 11 times, only achieved one win out of 19 nominations this year.
Even after more than 60 years, General Hospital continues to enthrall its audience with gripping storylines, dramatic family tales, and a legacy that has captivated viewers since its iconic Luke and Laura wedding in 1981, which attracted about 30 million viewers, right up to today’s audience enjoying it through streaming.
The 2025 Daytime Emmy Awards were held in Los Angeles and streamed live for fans to enjoy.
