General Motors will discontinue production of its iconic sedan, the Chevrolet Malibu.
The move comes as the Detroit-based automaker plans to renovate its Kansas facility that produces the Malibu so it can build its next electric Chevrolet Bolt model there. .

“To facilitate tooling and other plant modifications, GM will end production of the Chevrolet Malibu in November 2024 and suspend production of the Cadillac XT4 beginning in January 2025,” GM said in a statement. a spokesperson told FOX Business.
The company also builds the Cadillac XT4 at its Fairfax facility.

In recent years, GM has focused on building more crossovers and sport utility vehicles instead of cars. The Malibu is the last Chevrolet vehicle sold in the United States other than the Corvette.

According to reports, more than 10 million people have purchased the Malibu sedan in the 60 years since its launch.
A GM spokesperson said: “Once production resumes in late 2025, Fairfax will produce both the Bolt EV and XT4 on the same assembly line. This will allow GM to respond to changes in consumer demand. This will allow us to respond flexibly.”
