The PGA Tour is in Scotland for the Genesis Scottish Open, an event co-sponsored with the DP World Tour at Renaissance Club.
With four weeks remaining until the start of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, players continue to fight for points.
One of golf’s most prestigious tournaments is scheduled for this week, with six of the top 10 in the field, and defending champion Rory McIlroy leads the field along with Xander Schauffele and Ludvig Auberg.
This week will see the final qualifying round, with three players earning places at the British Open at Royal Troon next week.
Who will play in the final major tournament? And who will be the last to lift the trophy on Sunday?

Genesis Scottish Open Preview:
Rory McIlroy will play in a PGA Tour event for the first time since his U.S. Open heartbreak. The defending Scottish Open champion took three weeks off after finishing runner-up on the second hole at Pinehurst, but returns to this week’s tournament as the favorite to win. McIlroy is one of six of the top 10 players in the world who will compete.
The four-time major champion birdied the final two holes last year to edge out Robert McIntyre for his first win in 2023. He comes into this year’s tournament with two wins under his belt, the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and the Wells Fargo Championship.
But no golfer has ever won consecutive Genesis Scottish Opens. Could McIlroy be the first? He loves national Opens and does well there. McIlroy has won seven national Opens in his career. Could this week be his eighth, meaning he’s coming into the Open on a good note and full of confidence? Probably.
Meanwhile, world number one Scottie Scheffler did not make the trip, perhaps hoping to catch an early glimpse of the British Open at Royal Troon as he seeks his sixth title and second major championship in 2024.
Joining McIlroy in the star-studded tournament will be Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa, Hideki Matsuyama and Ludvig Aaberg.
Coming off a dominant performance at last week’s John Deere Classic, Davis Thompson made the trip from Silvis, Illinois, to Scotland along with 34 other competitors, including Eric Cole and Denny McCarthy.
Like McIlroy, Viktor Hovland is also returning after a short break, having finished tied for 20th at his last appearance at the Travelers Championship. Rumor has it that the former Oklahoma State golfer is in Las Vegas with swing coach Joe Mayo, and perhaps he will use the time off to try and get his first win of the season this week.
Ming Woo Lee is also one to watch in Scotland. The 2021 winner knows what it takes to win on this course, so don’t let your guard down. He’s on a roll this week, so maybe it’s finally time for him to win on the PGA Tour.
Any of these players will have a shot at winning at Renaissance Club, and after the birdie fest of recent weeks, this links-style course is sure to be even more challenging for the elite group of players competing, but as the old Scottish saying goes, it all depends on the weather and the wind direction.
