Genevieve Chennu Opens Up About Robbery Incident

Several months have passed since Genevieve Chennu, known for her role in “Bridgerton,” confronted a thief who tried to steal her phone. Now, the British actress shares how this traumatic experience has affected her life moving forward.

In a recent interview, the 27-year-old reflected on the February incident that took place in a London cafe, where her phone was snatched from behind her. She instinctively decided to confront the thief, illustrating the lasting consequences of this encounter.

Footage reveals 18-year-old Zacariah Boulares making off with her phone, but Chennu quickly realized what was happening and decided to take action.

“It was all instinct,” she mentioned. “I can’t support anyone taking risks unnecessarily.” She added, “The video showed a nervous moment. I jumped on his back, held him down, and at one point, he threatened to stab me, which was terrifying.”

Chennu recalled being hit in the head, causing her to lose consciousness briefly. She later learned from her doctor that she had suffered a concussion, which triggered weeks of vertigo. “I was scared to go out alone for a while,” she confessed.

Boulares has a rap sheet with 12 prior convictions, including a past incident involving a machete threat to singer Aled Jones. Shockingly, he had served only 14 months in prison for that offense.

After pleading guilty in court, Boulares faced consequences for his actions. Chennu expressed her concerns, saying, “He needs proper rehabilitation; otherwise, he’s likely to commit worse crimes in the future.”

Reflecting on her own journey post-incident, Chennu admitted that she felt she hit “rock bottom” after the robbery. “It’s been a huge shock, but maybe this is the chance for me to start fresh. Now, I want to focus on my career, friends, and well-being,” she said.

On June 12, she described the experience as “a life-and-death moment.” It escalated into a chaotic confrontation that left her feeling vulnerable. “I remember kicking back to create space, worrying if he had a weapon. It was truly life-changing,” she noted.

The actress also acknowledged the lasting impact of the incident on her ability to feel safe outside her home. “I really didn’t want to go out anymore,” she shared. “As women, we often have to be cautious around strangers, but going through this made it even harder for me to step outside.”
