Over 250,000 People Evacuated in Spain and France Due to Wildfires
Wildfires in Spain and France have prompted the evacuation of over 250,000 individuals. In response to a blaze in Bordeaux, a renowned wine region in France, Spain has declared a national emergency. Consequently, the Tour de France was shortened as military support and firefighters fought against a massive fire.
A representative for George Clooney confirmed his family’s evacuation to People magazine, revealing a letter addressed to Brignoles Mayor Didier Bremont. The Clooneys, along with their nine-year-old twins, left their residence in Brignoles, located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, as the Mediterranean region faces threats from these wildfires. The letter highlights their uncertainty, stating, “Dear Didier, we do not know at this time whether our beautiful home will survive this terrible moment.”
As they departed, they expressed their concern for the local community, emphasizing their ongoing commitment to it: “We hope that you and the people of our city are safe. Amal and I are committed to remaining part of this community no matter what happens to our village.” The letter underlined their affection for Brignoles and its residents.
Fox News Digital has sought further comments from Clooney’s representatives regarding the family’s safety and the status of their home.
The ongoing evacuations coincide with wildfires spreading across southern Europe. As of Wednesday, a significant blaze, reportedly four times larger than Paris, remains uncontained in southwestern France. While different from the fire affecting Brignoles, approximately 3,000 people have been evacuated. Greece has also reported three firefighter fatalities as they battle extreme heat and winds.
In France and Spain, the situation has escalated with over 300,000 evacuations involving both locals and tourists. Temperatures approached 104 degrees in France’s Gironde region, resulting in the evacuation of around 220,000 people from the area during the height of the wildfires. Although many have since returned, tens of thousands remain displaced.
Clooney has shared previously that he and Amal prefer raising their children in France to avoid the pressures of Hollywood. He recalled his own experiences growing up on a farm, explaining how they seek a different lifestyle for their children away from fame and media scrutiny.
