George Clooney’s Shift on Screen Kissing

George Clooney has decided to maintain a bit more distance from his female co-stars, after having a serious chat with his wife, Amal Clooney. “I’ve been trying to go down the path of Paul Newman—’Okay, well, I’m not going to kiss girls anymore,'” the 64-year-old “Ocean’s Eleven” star shared in a recent interview.

Reflecting on his career, he mentioned, “When I turned 60, I talked to my wife. I said, ‘Look, I can still play basketball with guys. I’m keeping in shape and can keep up with younger players. But in 25 years, I’ll be 85. Those are real numbers.’”

Clooney first gained fame in 1994 for his role as Dr. Doug Ross on the beloved show ER. Over the years, he’s starred in many films where he shared romantic moments, including with actresses like Michelle Pfeiffer, Jennifer Lopez, and Julia Roberts.

This year, he hinted at changes in his on-screen choices by saying he would not pursue romance movies anymore. “Look, I’m 63 years old. Competing with 25-year-old leading men isn’t my thing,” he stated. “That’s simply not my job.”

Interestingly, Clooney faced criticism for intimate scenes when he first entered Hollywood in the early ’80s. He recalled a specific instance when a director once said, “No,” during a kissing scene, and he thought, “Hey, that’s what I do! That’s part of the job!”

He married Amal, now 47, in 2014, and they welcomed twins, Ella and Alexander, in June 2017. In a recent interview, Clooney discussed why they opted to leave the glamorous lifestyle of Los Angeles for a quieter life in Europe. “We’re so lucky,” he expressed, mentioning their farm in France.

Having grown up on a farm, he shared that he long resisted that lifestyle but appreciates it now. “For my kids, it’s like not having an iPad. They have to eat with adults and clean up afterward. It’s a much better life.”

Nonetheless, he has concerns about raising Ella and Alexander in Hollywood’s culture. “I worried they wouldn’t experience a shake-up in their lives,” he revealed. “In France, the focus isn’t on fame. We want to shield them from paparazzi and comparisons to other famous kids.”
