Conservative commentator George Conway criticized former President Trump, calling him a “coward,” for seemingly refusing to debate Vice President Harris.
Conway Participated Friday night’s episode of MSNBC’s “All in with Chris Hayes” will discuss the future of the general election after a tumultuous few weeks.
He listened to a recent Trump video in which the Republican presidential candidate questioned why Harris should debate him when she was “leading in the polls” — the same argument he used when he skipped Republican primary debates earlier in the election cycle — and said voters already know who each candidate is.
“That word sums it up in one word: wimp,” Conway said. “He’s a wimp. He’s afraid of her. She’s going to overpower him and he knows it.”
Democrats have rallied around Harris since Biden dropped out of the race last month, putting pressure on Trump to debate the vice president.
Harris agreed to debate former President Trump and accused him of “receding.”
A potential debate between Harris and Trump could be seen as a highlight moment for Biden and Harris, whose lack of energy and difficulty understanding his train of thought onstage in a June debate stunted his campaign.
Trump initially said he would “absolutely” debate Harris, despite his campaign making it clear they wouldn’t commit to a debate until Harris was formally nominated. Trump later said he would “probably” debate her, but remains adamant that he had originally agreed to the September 10 debate with Biden, not Harris.
Conway argued that Harris was someone who could get on President Trump’s nerves.
“She has the perfect happy warrior attitude, teasing him to his face,” he said Friday.
At a recent rally in Atlanta, Harris challenged Trump, telling the crowd that if he had something to say about her, he should “say it to her face.” Harris’ campaign also said Trump was “too scared” to debate her and needed to “man up.”
Conway believes that if the former president were to criticize Harris directly and in real time, “she would just roll her eyes and laugh and giggle.”
“And he’ll look incredibly weak,” he added. “She’ll ruin him.”
