Conservative lawyer George Conway argued that former President Trump and his campaign are experiencing the “ultimate collapse.”
Sunday in Conway exterior Appearing on MSNBC's “Inside with Jen Psaki,” Psaki offered her thoughts on the Trump campaign after last week's debate, which was widely seen as a victory for Vice President Harris.
“This is the ultimate collapse, and we're watching it live,” Conway said. “And it's going to get worse.”
Conway was referring to the questions and criticism Trump has received in recent days about his relationship with Laura Loomer, who has made racist comments about Harris online and flew with him to the debate.
Trump has said he disagrees with Loomer's comments, and his campaign confirmed she no longer has an official role in the campaign.
Conway said on MSNBC that Trump's team has “lost control over Trump,” adding that the only person in control is Loomer, who is whispering in Trump's ear that “everything is fine” and “he's great.”
Presidential polls have continued to tilt in Harris' favor since the debates — one poll found that she gained support during the debates while Trump lost — and conservative states once expected to win for Trump, North Carolina and Georgia, are now turning into close races.
Conway argued the polls were evidence that Trump's “tactics aren't working anymore” because “we see it.”
Conway also said Trump's posts about Taylor Swift over the weekend showed the former president was “just going on the offensive.”
Shortly after the debate, the singer endorsed Harris and urged people to register to vote. A few days later, Trump posted on his Truth Social site, “I hate Taylor Swift!”
And during last week's debate, Trump trumpeted a false claim that Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, were eating people's pets, which sparked controversy in the city, including bomb threats and school evacuations that included hate messages against immigrants.
Conway, who has long called Trump a liar, said the former president and his running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), were making up false stories to win the election.
“It's not working for him and he knows it and he knows he's on the way down…. Remember, he's not just running for president, he's avoiding prison,” Conway said.
The Hill has reached out to the Trump campaign for comment on Conway's recent comments.
