George Kittle Responds to Fake Quote Incident
The San Francisco 49ers tight end, George Kittle, recently found himself at the center of a controversy stemming from a fake quote posted about him on social media. This incident caught the attention of both him and his wife, Claire, who expressed their frustration over the situation.
“This is clearly a fake quote,” Claire shared on her Instagram story. “How sick is it that someone would take the time to create this and involve George? Honestly, what’s even more troubling is that George has to deal with this kind of hatred online. It’s really disheartening.”
Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist, was tragically killed last week while attending an event at Utah Valley University. He was just 31 years old.
The fabricated quote first appeared on social media through a Facebook page named “Red and Gold Legacy.” According to reports, it suggested that “soccer should be about games, competition, fans… there’s no politics involved.” Kittle took to his own social media to clarify the situation, sharing a screenshot that highlighted the false quotation.
“I hope most of you understand that,” he wrote. “Just so you know, those accounts only spread fake news. It’s ridiculous to see the wild messages I get from people because of this. Good night.”
A spokesperson for Meta mentioned that their investigation had uncovered numerous fake Facebook accounts using similar tactics to incite anger and division surrounding Kirk’s death. In a follow-up post, Claire urged her followers to “do a little research before jumping to any conclusions.”
She also expressed frustration towards online behavior, stating, “Don’t attack people based on the latest headlines. It’s unfortunate, but people can be awful. Hopefully, they’ll learn and do better.”
On the field, Kittle had a solid performance in the 49ers’ Week 1 victory, catching four passes for a touchdown before leaving the game early due to a hamstring injury. He recently signed a four-year, $76 million extension and was looking forward to another Pro Bowl-worthy season.
