George Pickens is gearing up for two seasons in 2025 before he needs to think about a new contract.
As reported by Dallas insider Clarence Hill Jr., the Cowboys are not planning to make many changes this offseason. They’re focusing instead on showcasing their top players this year.
The young wide receiver was traded to the Cowboys, with the Steelers sending him over along with the sixth draft pick of 2026. In return, Pittsburgh received a third-round pick in 2026 and a fifth-round pick in 2027.
Pickens, who was the Steelers’ second-round pick in 2022, is heading into the last year of his rookie contract. Despite being a bit of a controversial figure, he’s emerged as one of the top wide receivers in the league, consistently posting over 800 receiving yards each season.
The Steelers are looking to pair Pickens with DK Metcalf, who joined the team in March after a trade from the Seahawks. This duo is expected to form one of the strongest wide receiver combinations in the league.
Even though there were trade rumors surrounding him earlier this offseason, Steelers general manager Omar Khan has emphasized that they have no intention of moving on from Pickens.
Khan expressed his enthusiasm about having both players: “I’m really happy that George and DK are here. They’ll be a thrill to watch,” he noted. He also reiterated that there aren’t any trade plans in place.
Back in February, Khan even hinted at the possibility of giving Pickens an extension. According to Khan, “He has a drive to excel here. We want him to succeed, but we don’t talk about these things publicly. Generally, that’s something we sort out later.”
Currently, Pickens appears to be positioned behind CeeDee Lamb as the second primary target for Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott.
