George Santos Leaves NYC After Mayor Election Results

In the wake of socialist Zoran Mamdani’s victory in the mayoral election, George Santos, the disgraced former congressman from New York, made a dramatic announcement about leaving the city.

In a video posted on X, Santos, a pardoned Republican, said, “Good luck, New York. Nice to meet you.” This came just hours after the Democratic Socialists’ win was confirmed.

“After 37 years, I’m retiring,” he stated. “It’s better to know the evil you know than the evil you don’t want to know.” Santos had previously faced imprisonment for donor fraud and identity theft but was later pardoned—a point that Mamdani had noted even before this election.

He had expressed, “Sadly, it appears that my family and I will be leaving the city we have called home all our lives.”

Santos warned that electing Mamdani as mayor might make New York City a dangerous place. “I don’t want to take that risk now that I want to grow my family,” he said in an October 22 post, which has garnered nearly 13 million views.

He attributed the election outcome to mathematical realities and accused former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo of hindering his chances against Mamdani by not stepping aside for Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa.

“This is just a bad example of delusion, greed, self-aggrandizement, and, most importantly, the consultant class putting all of that above the people,” he criticized Sliwa.

Santos remarked that while Cuomo was a flawed candidate, he was preferable to the alternative. “I prefer the evil I know to the evil I don’t want to know,” he added.

Mamdani secured 50.4% of the votes, while Cuomo, running as an independent, received 41.6%. Sliwa trailed significantly, with only 7.1% of the vote.
