George Soros did not attend his son Alex's wedding to Huma Abedin.

Billionaire George Soros may have chosen to stay away from the wedding of his son, Alex Soros, and Huma Abedin, a former aide to Hillary Clinton, which took place on Saturday. Instead, he participated in a more low-key family gathering the day before.

While the prominent Democratic supporters were absent from the larger wedding event, the 94-year-old Soros attended a small family ceremony on Friday morning, reportedly officiated by both rabbis and imams to honor the couple’s diverse faith backgrounds.

The sprawling estate in Watermill, New York, where the celebration was held, hosted an array of notable guests, including Bill and Hillary Clinton, Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, Nancy Pelosi, Senator Chuck Schumer, alongside celebrities like Jimmy Fallon, Anna Wintour, and Nicky Rothschild.

A source mentioned that Soros and his wife, Tamiko Bolton, opted for a more intimate gathering on Friday. This insider also noted that Soros remains in good health despite his age.

The reason for Soros’s absence from the wedding remains unclear, though it was previously reported that the band Boyz II Men performed during the celebration, with speakers including Abedin’s son Jordan and the Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, giving toasts.

Alex’s brothers, Hillary Clinton, and Wintour also made speeches during the event, which featured a menu with dishes like Agnotti pasta, cold peas, American Wagyu steak, and grilled shrimp.

As for the bride, she wore two custom wedding dresses, one designed by Erdem and the other by Givenchy, according to Vogue.

The family gathering on Friday included a ceremony that respected both faiths—signing a Nika for Abedin’s Muslim traditions and a Ketuba for Soros’s Jewish customs. The following day’s wedding celebration was much more elaborate.

This year, both Soros and Clinton received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Biden, recognizing their impact and contributions. Soros, originally from Hungary, has been a significant financial supporter of Democratic causes, contributing over $175 million during the 2022 midterms and an additional $60 million in 2024 through his PACs.

Earlier this year, it was exclusively reported that 48-year-old Alex, the son of George Soros, had sent out “Save the Date” cards for his wedding to Huma Abedin in February. Their engagement was made public last summer, with insider comments highlighting how Alex fits perfectly into Huma’s world—wealthy and well-connected. Abedin, who was previously married to the disgraced politician Anthony Weiner, filed for divorce in 2017 amid a scandal involving sexting.
