CLAIM: ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos claimed that former President Donald “was found by a jury to be responsible for rape.”
Verdict: False.A New York jury said Trump do not have He was charged with rape in a lawsuit filed by E. Jean Carroll.
In an interview with Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina), Stephanopoulos repeatedly claimed that Trump was found “responsible” for the “rape.”In fact, he was found do not have Take responsible. He was charged with “sexual abuse” and later charged with defamation. Both of these rulings are problematic, but even if Trump is liable (in a civil, rather than criminal sense, as Mace pointed out), the fact is that Trump is guilty of rape. He was never held responsible. And for Stephanopoulos to claim otherwise borders on defamation.
As Breitbart News reported last May:
A New York jury ruled Tuesday that former President Donald Trump is responsible for the sexual abuse and assault of author E. Jean Carroll three decades ago, but not for rape. was ordered to pay $5 million in civil damages.
Jurors also found that Trump, backed by anti-Trump lawyer George Conway, and Carroll, who was backed by Democratic mega-donor Reid Hoffman, an associate of the late convicted Jeffrey Epstein, In response to the lawsuit, Trump found that he had defamed Carroll.
It is true that the judge in the case, Louis A. Kaplan, found that Mr. Trump colloquially “raped” Ms. Carroll. But the judge’s arguments were the subject of widespread criticism, and the jury specifically found Trump guilty. do not have responsible.
It was Stephanopoulos who used the word “jury”, which makes his statement 100% false, even as a colloquial use of the word “rape” (as an obvious alternative to “sexual abuse”) I can’t defend it.
Mace tried to “shame” Stephanopoulos by using his own experience as a rape victim to argue that she should be ashamed of supporting Trump, who is accused of rape. He pointed out that he had done so. In that context, his lie was even more egregious.
