“This is really a false controversy,” Donald said. “I don’t really care. Most people don’t care. But to be precise, when Kamala Harris became a U.S. senator, it was the Associated Press that said she was the first Indian-American U.S. senator.”
“That’s not really important,” Donald continued, saying voters should be more concerned about “inflation,” illegal immigration and the fentanyl crisis.
“You’ve used the slur again,” Stephanopoulos told Donald. “If it’s not an issue, why do you always question her identity? She has always identified as a black woman. She is mixed race.”

Donald countered that while Trump briefly mentioned Harris’ racial identity onstage at the Atlanta rally, he spent most of his time talking about her record as vice president.
“She was the most liberal senator in the United States Senate,” he said. “That’s a fact.”
Stephanopoulos also responded to Donald’s claim that the Associated Press had reported that Harris was of Indian descent when she first became a senator.
“The Associated Press has never said Kamala Harris is not black. She’s mixed race. She’s Indian. She’s black. You continue to repeat the slurs. I don’t understand why you and the president do it, but you’re obviously not going to say it’s wrong and we’ve proven that to our viewers.”
The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.
