George Strait, the “King of Country Music,” is now also the “King of the Concert.”
Strait broke the record for the largest-selling concert in the United States when he took the stage at Texas A&M University’s Kyle Field in College Station on Saturday.
The “Amarillo By Morning” singer performed to a crowd of 110,905 in East Texas, breaking the all-time attendance record set by the Grateful Dead nearly 50 years ago.
In 1977, 107,019 fans gathered at Raceway Park in New Jersey to see the Dead. On Saturday, Strait surpassed that figure, selling nearly 4,000 tickets. Billboard.

“The Aggies are here? Oh yeah! I’m embarrassed to say this is my first time at Kyle Field… oh my goodness,” Straight told the crowd. “If you invite me back, I’ll come!”

Before the show, he sent out a message on X (formerly Twitter) urging fans to arrive early and stay hydrated because fun was in store.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott was in the audience to watch Strait debut new songs “MIA in MIA” and “The Little Things” from his upcoming album, Cowboys and Dreamers.
“An incredible concert by King George Strait,” Abbott wrote to X. “The biggest sellout crowd ever for an American company.”

Sen. Ted Cruz wrote, “Tonight I took my daughter Caroline to see George Strait in concert at TAMU’s Kyle Field. We had a great time. Great concert.”
Parker McCollum and Katie Offerman also joined the King at Kyle Field as special guests.

Strait has had the most number one singles of any artist in any music genre and is the only artist to have had a top 10 hit on the charts every year for 30 years.

Additionally, Strait has the most No. 1 albums in country music history, including 20 of his 60 No. 1 hits.

Strait has 13 multi-platinum albums and 38 gold albums to his name. His 1992 “Pure Country” catalog has been certified platinum six times, and his highest certified album is the 1995 classic “Strait Out of the Box.”
