Georgetown University's women's basketball team is facing backlash after paying tribute to former team player Sidney Wilson, who was shot and killed after allegedly brandishing a knife at a Fairfax County police officer.
newsweek reported Wilson was shot by a police officer on September 16, 2024 and died at the hospital.

daily mail noticed Wilson, who is 6 feet 6 inches tall, allegedly lunged at the officer who conducted a welfare check on her.
She allegedly “slashed the officer in the face multiple times before the officer fired his weapon.”
After her death, the Georgetown women's basketball team posted to X:
They followed that post with another. said,”Once a squirt, always a squirt We love you Sid! We will keep you in our hearts. ”
Neither post offered prayers for the injured officer or expressed sadness that Wilson allegedly slashed the officer with a knife.
Many X users responded critically to Georgetown's tribute to Wilson, with one user writing, “She tried to kill a police officer.”
Another wrote, “She tried to kill a cop,” and yet another wrote, “You're glorifying an attempted cop murderer…”
