Georgia mother sentenced to life in prison after attempting to kill her 12-year-old daughter’s alleged molester

A Georgia mother accused of trying to kill her daughter’s sexual abuser has been found guilty of murder and other charges after another person was shot and killed in the incident. fox news digital.

Daniel Harris, 42, was convicted of felony murder, aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to the report.

On March 31, 2020, Harris allegedly discovered a video of her 12-year-old daughter engaging in sexual activity with a man later identified as 22-year-old Antonio Hurley. The next day, around 3:30 a.m., Harris reported the incident to a DeKalb County police officer involved in the department’s Special Victims Unit.

The officer urged Harris not to let his anger get the best of him and take revenge, adding that detectives would contact him soon. But Harris didn’t heed the warning. Hours after reporting the incident, Harris led a group of people to the apartment complex to confront Hurley about the sexual abuse allegations. Around 1 p.m., Harris asked her daughter to tell her which apartment Harley lived in. After the girl did so, Harris knocked on the door with the rest of the group behind her.

Hurley did not open the door, according to the report. He went around the side of the apartment to see who was there. Harris and the members of the group she brought with her began pursuing Harley, but Harley managed to get back into the apartment through the back door.

After Hurley returned to the apartment, one of Harris’ group fired a gun, hitting Hurley in the chest. Hurley’s brother, who was also in the apartment at the time, fired in an attempt to protect himself and his five younger brothers, the report said.

Juan Newkirk, 19, a member of the group Harris brought to Hurley’s apartment, was shot and killed in the shootout.

As a result of the incident, Harris was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole plus five years, according to FOX News Digital. Two other people involved in the incident were also charged.

Hurley ultimately escaped injury, but was charged with statutory rape, child molestation, and child sexual exploitation.

Hurley’s lawsuit is still pending.
