Georgia motorcycle officer injured after assisting with Harris motorcade

The Savannah, Georgia Police Department announced that a Georgia State Trooper assisting with Vice President Harris' motorcade was “severely injured” in a motorcycle accident Wednesday evening. statement Thursday.

Police said the accident, which occurred around 7 p.m., was a “single-vehicle accident” and no other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Savannah Police Sergeant David Bates was then taken to a local hospital, Memorial Health University Medical Center, where he continued to be treated Thursday in stable condition, according to the statement.

Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, a Democrat, left on a two-day bus tour of southeast Georgia on Wednesday as part of an effort to reach voters in more rural areas of the battleground state.

The Georgia trip will mark the first time that Harris and Walz have visited the key battleground state together. Harris spoke to thousands in Atlanta earlier this month ahead of the vice presidential selection process.
