Georgia State Police are increasing security at schools across Barrow County as students plan to return to class this week following the Apalachee High School shooting.
Classes are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, but school officials say students who aren't ready to return yet don't have to. Superintendent Dallas LeDuff confirmed the increased police presence in a statement last week.
“We believe that in order to move forward and feel closer to our students, we need to come together as soon as possible,” LeDuff said in a statement.
“We understand these are difficult times and we are here for you,” he added. “We are Strengthening law enforcement; At each school.”

Georgia shooter's father says son was bullied at school
The Barrow County Sheriff's Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital about the details of the increased security or how long it will last.

Police identified the four shooting victims as students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14, and math teachers Richard Aspinwall and Christina Irimy.
