Georgia recruit Chace Calicut taken into custody after driving incident

Chase Calicut, who is committed to Georgia’s football team, was arrested earlier this month following an alleged violent driving incident.

Calicut, along with another 17-year-old, faces two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon due to an event that took place on July 6, as stated in records obtained by the Post.

Reported from Houston, Calicut, a four-star cornerback recruit, officially joined Georgia’s roster on June 27th, part of a 2026 recruitment class with 114 players.

The incident reportedly occurred in Houston, where Calicut attends North Shore High School.

According to Fox 26’s reports, court documents reveal that Calicut cut off another driver, who had a female passenger, abruptly braking and thereby preventing a potential collision with his vehicle.

The other male teenager then attempted to navigate around Calicut’s car to flee, but Calicut reportedly drove erratically alongside him.

The passenger with Calicut, identified as Isaiah Bryce Phillip, allegedly brandished a handgun toward the other vehicle.

After the other teen managed to escape from Calicut’s car, several gunshots were reported, with another friend claiming to have witnessed Phillip firing from the window.

It was noted that the two groups knew each other from school, and that there had been prior threats made over several months.

This marks the second Georgia football commitment this month to encounter legal troubles. Seven Cloud, another defensive line recruit, was recently charged with domestic battery in Kansas related to an incident from April.

The Georgia football program has faced several driving-related arrests in recent years, and coach Kirby Smart has addressed this issue repeatedly before the upcoming 2024 season.

Smart expressed his disappointment last July, stating that off-field incidents are not something the program tolerates. “It’s really a shame,” he commented, “the outcome here is very disappointing.”
