Two Georgia teachers arrested on suspicion of sexual relations with three students, Reilly Gleason and Brooklyn Shuler, were well known for their behavior at their small-town high school before their arrests, according to their parents.
“I’m not trying to stereotype them, but you can see they’re problem kids when you look at them,” said Audrey Decker, whose stepdaughter attends the school.
“They just seemed to be crazy about boys, and everyone at school knew about it and made jokes about it.”
Another parent agreed: “Wow, they were cheaters,” said the mother of a second-grader, who asked The Washington Post not to use her name.
“I wish I could have seen them with all the hot parents who came to school. They’d have affairs with every dad.”
“Laughing too loud, getting too close, that sort of thing,” her mother continued.
“Flirting. Trying to look cute. Shameless.”
Gleason and Schuller’s friendship goes back several years.
Gleason served as a bridesmaid at Schuller’s wedding in Tunnel Hill, Georgia, on Nov. 12, 2022, several months after the allegations of a sexual relationship with the student.
According to the couple’s wedding website, which has since been deleted, Gleason described Shuler as her “best friend” and “the person I’ll spend the rest of my life with.”
Nearly a year later, Shuler served as a bridesmaid at Gleason’s wedding in October 2023.
While Schuler appears to have separated from her husband, whose social media profiles show him in a new relationship with another woman, Gleason appears to still be married to her husband, based on social media posts.
Gleason and Shuler worked together in the school district until they were charged last Thursday with sleeping with a male high school student between October 2021 and January 2022, according to the indictment. Retrieved by 11Alive.
According to the indictment, Gleason allegedly had sexual intercourse with two male students between Oct. 29, 2021, and Jan. 3, 2022. Shuler is accused of having sexual intercourse with another male student during the same dates.
The women were each charged with first-degree sexual contact by an employee or agent. The indictment did not specify the students’ ages, but the wording of the charges suggests they may have been over the age of consent in Georgia, which is 16.
The indictment alleges the women “reasonably should have known” the boys were enrolled in the school district, but does not allege they had direct contact with the boys as educators.
Calhoun City Schools did not respond to The Washington Post’s request for comment.
Both women were arrested and booked into the Gordon County Jail but have since been released on bail. Gordon Gazette report.
If convicted, Gleason and Shuler face up to 25 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $100,000.
It is unclear whether they have retained lawyers authorized to speak on their behalf.
