German Club Soccer Team Left ‘Stunned’ by ‘Unexpected’ Passing of 22-Year-Old Player

Luka Meixner, 22, a soccer player for German club team SSV Reutlingen 05, has passed away “unexpectedly,” the club announced on Saturday.

“Last weekend we received the sad news that our player Luka Mixner passed away on Friday 12/27. Passed away suddenly at the age of 22,” SSV Reutlingen said on its Instagram account.

“The entire SSV family is deeply shaken and appalled. His teammates, all executives and staff mourn Lucas' survival and our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues.”

The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Meixner has been playing in midfield for SSV Reutlingen 05 since 2021. Maiksner, a native of Reutlingen, “went through all the club's youth teams” before being promoted to the main team. He was known for his “dynamism and aggressiveness” and goal-scoring ability, according to a team news release.

The Reutlingen native played 26 games for the team last season and the club's website said he and the other players had a “very good squad for next season”. “

Meixner most recently played against TSG Balingen on December 7th, 1-1.

“I am very happy to be playing another year at SSV Reutlingen, which has been my home for over 10 years,” Meixner said in a release from the club. “Even at a young age, I learned at this club how important the right values ​​are for success. We will continue to build on these values ​​next season, with a lot of cohesiveness, hard work and the necessary I hope that our team spirit will allow us to compete at the top.”
