Germany Arrests Three Over Suspected Islamist Attack

BERLIN (AP) – Two young men and a suspected accomplice with Islamic State sympathies have been arrested in Germany on suspicion of preparing an attack, authorities said Tuesday.

Two German-Lebanese brothers, aged 15 and 20, from the southwestern city of Mannheim and a 22-year-old Turkish-German man from the neighboring state of Hesse were arrested on Sunday, prosecutors and police said. .

The brothers are accused of preparing the attack and procuring assault rifles and ammunition, among other things, motivated by religious ideology and “deep sympathies” for the Islamic State group. The murder weapon was found in the home of a 22-year-old man, the statement said.

Investigators also found a balaclava, a protective vest, several knives and a cell phone. A judge on Monday ordered the suspects to remain in custody pending possible prosecution.

Prosecutors and police said there was never a “specific danger to the public.” He did not say whether he had any specific attack plans or targets.
