TAMPA – Aaron Boone has now been forced to qualify as a “good care” beard from the police stubble.
But general manager Brian Cashman offered the Yankees a comparison of what their new whiskers should look like after the organization announced Friday.
“The only information provided by cash is that we don't look like a duck dynasty,” Gerrit Cole said.
“The opposition to the duck dynasty is always shattering the forest, but you really don't have another option. But that was the only explanation we've ever had.”
Boone said he knew it when he saw it, but Hal Steinbrenner indicated that the Yankees would publish Beard's maintenance costs later that day.
Cole often had a beard when pitching for the Pirates and Astros, but now that he's allowed as a yankee, he says he's not necessarily going back to growth.
“When I arrived in the Big League, I wanted to be as old and mature as possible,” Cole said while erecting several necks.
“Now, behind the aging curve, I like to look younger. There's no need for all the grey to appear.”
As a Yankees fan, Cole said he can understand how massive the announcement Friday is.
“That's a big deal. I just threw today and no one cares,” he said with a laugh after throwing a bullpen session and returning to the clubhouse.
“Obviously, I wanted to emulate everything the Yankees did because I'm a Yankee fan. So it was kind of cool to be part of that legacy. And we're not a different person. It's also cool to move forward to some degree as well as moving forward.”
