Before you know it, baseball will be back.
And after a rocky 2023, new general manager David Stearns has assembled an impressive medley of mid-rotation starting pitchers — Luis Severino, Adrian Hauser and Sean Manaea, along with Kodai Chiga and Jose. They will complement Quintana — and role players like Joey Wendle and crosstown rival Harrison Bader will shore up the roster.
Additionally, All-Star closer Edwin Diaz will return under new coach Carlos Mendoza.
While it’s not as flashy as last year’s acquisition of Justin Verlander, this is the typical rough-and-tumble Mets team that fans can rally around.
And if that’s not enough to get you to Citi Field this spring and summer, the team has announced 19 exciting perks this season.
Standouts include a trio of bobbleheads that you can’t wait to get your hands on. Mr Met in a London phone booth (May 11), Brandon Nimmo (July 12) and Francisco Lindor in streetwear (July 29).
Personally, I’m most looking forward to the fan appreciation beanies that will be given away to attendees on Saturday, September 21st.

On Sunday, April 14th, the Mets will retire Dwight Gooden’s No. 16 jersey during a pregame ceremony.

A little more than a month later, Daryl Strawberry will get the respect he deserves when the team retires No. 18 in his honor on Saturday, June 1st.
