Ghislaine Maxwell Battles to Keep Epstein Grand Jury Information Hidden

Maxwell’s Opposition to DOJ’s Efforts

Ghislaine Maxwell’s attorney has expressed her opposition to the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) move to create a jury transcript from her case. This comes amid ongoing discussions regarding the sealing of court documents.

In response to the DOJ’s request, which was filed in the Southern District of New York, Maxwell’s lawyers argued that public interest, particularly in connection to Jeffrey Epstein, cannot justify invading her legal privacy. Her legal rights, they say, are still intact.

They emphasized that Maxwell hasn’t had the chance to review certain transcripts, even though the government wasn’t against her recent request for access to them. In fact, her lawyer has pointed out that Maxwell is firmly against the release of these records. This stems from her 2021 conviction related to sex trafficking, specifically concerning her role in facilitating the sexual abuse of minors by Epstein.

The DOJ, however, maintained in a recent court filing that much of the testimony has already been shared during Maxwell’s trial. Maxwell’s attorney argued that without knowing what is contained in the records, she felt compelled to challenge the DOJ’s push for sealing.

Moreover, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche recently conducted an interview with Maxwell, who is currently serving a 20-year sentence, discussing nearly 100 individuals connected to Epstein.

In a communication to the House Oversight Committee, Oscar Marx outlined the conditions for Maxwell’s participation, while also noting a request from President Donald Trump regarding her treatment.

Following her lawyer’s request, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Kommer has postponed Maxwell’s deposition indefinitely. Meanwhile, Maxwell has been transferred from a federal prison in Tallahassee, Florida, to a low-security facility in Texas.

Reports indicate that the DOJ will be releasing a transcript from Blanche’s interview with Maxwell.
