Ghislaine Maxwell Proposes Conditions for Her Testimony

Ghislaine Maxwell, previously involved with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, is requesting preliminary immunity in exchange for her cooperation with a Congressional subpoena.

This request was communicated through a letter from her attorney. The House Oversight Committee is overseeing the subpoena.

“Initially, we indicated that Maxwell would exercise her Fifth Amendment rights and refrain from testifying,” her attorney, David Oscar Marx, stated in correspondence with committee chairman James Comer (R-KY). “However, after further consideration, I would like to explore a way to collaborate with Congress if we can create a fair and secure arrangement.”

Comer has scheduled Maxwell for a deposition on August 11, 2025, to be held in Tallahassee, according to a press release from the Oversight Committee.

Maxwell was convicted in December 2021 on three conspiracy charges and received a 20-year sentence related to the trafficking of minors and criminal sexual conduct. She maintains her stance of innocence, and her family contends that she has not received a fair trial.

In addition, Maxwell’s lawyer mentioned that she is seeking to delay her congressional testimony until the Supreme Court has rendered a decision on her appeal. Interestingly, it was noted that if she receives clemency from former President Donald Trump, she would be willing to testify.

Previously reported by other outlets, despite Trump’s interest in related testimonies concerning the Epstein case, a judge in Florida denied the request to lift a seal on major aspects of the trial.

After her sentencing, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche interviewed Maxwell in prison last week in search of new evidence.

It seems unlikely that Maxwell’s demands will be fully met, and her testimony may ultimately not occur. A representative for Comer’s committee emphasized that they will not provide her with immunity in exchange for testimony.
